Ostrich Neck Potjie




Heat oil and fry 5 large onions and 3 cloves crushed garlic until translucent and soft.

Add 3 kg ostrich neck portions and sear in pot until brown.


Mix the following:

10 ml of salt

25 ml Italian Herbs

5 ml fine coriander

5.5 ml whole coriander

5 ml of pepper

Add to meat and stir well.

Mix 4 chicken extract cubes with 6 cups of Coca-Cola. Pour over meat.


Simmer slowly for about 90 min or until the meat is tender.


Stack in layers on top of meat:

1.5 pack of baby potatoes and

1 pack of carrots

Cook for 15 min.


Stack in layers on top of potato and carrots:

2 packets of patty pans or marrows

2 packets of mushrooms


Mix a cup of water with 4 table spoons of Bisto powder and 25 ml of lemon juice and to pot.


Simmer for a further 30 minutes until everything is soft.
